Twenty local dogs and their faithful owners

Three playful puppies running through grass while sharing a colourful rope toy, showcasing the community spirit of Hurst Park's Fun Dog Show where local dogs and their owners gather for friendly competition

On a sunny Sunday, 29 September 2024, Hurst Park buzzed with joy as 20 local dogs and their devoted owners gathered at the marker for the Hurst Park Residents’ Association’s (HPRA) inaugural Fun Dog Show after-party. Tails wagged, laughter echoed, and the Thames-side air was filled with the scent of excitement—and, briefly, sausages!

The event featured five playful categories: Best Sausage Catcher, Prettiest Girl, Handsomest Boy, Best Young Handler, and Best Trick. From sleek retrievers snatching sausages mid-air to poodles prancing with poise, each pup showcased their unique charm. Young handlers, some barely taller than their furry companions, stole hearts with their enthusiasm, while tricks like high-fives and spins left the crowd cheering. Judging the spectacle was Vanessa the Vet from The Vet Station in West Molesey, ably supported by Glane and Lilly Kim Woofs from DAISY Pet Shop in New Malden. Their expertise ensured every bark and bow was fairly celebrated, making the day a paw-sitive triumph for all.

This heartwarming event not only strengthened community bonds but also set the stage for more tail-wagging fun. Mark your calendars—HPRA plans to bring back the Fun Dog Show in 2025. If you and your four-legged friend want to join the fun, let us know at hello@hurstpark.org

And speaking of dogs…
