Surrey County Council has informed the community that two horse chestnut trees along Hurst Road, near Linkfield, are scheduled to be removed between now and 30th June.
These trees, once a familiar part of the local landscape, have sadly been identified as dead or dying, posing a potential safety risk to pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. Their removal is part of ongoing work by the Council to ensure the safety and health of roadside trees across the borough.
Update – Work Scheduled for Monday, 12 May
The tree removal contractor has confirmed they will be attending early on the morning of Monday, 12 May. While an exact time hasn’t been provided, residents should expect the team to arrive first thing.
If you normally park in the area near the affected trees, and the space is not formally designated, we kindly ask that you move your vehicle shortly beforehand. This will help prevent others from parking under the trees and ensure the contractor can access the site safely and efficiently.
We understand the removal of mature trees is always disappointing. However, this action is necessary for public safety. We also hope that Surrey County Council will consider planting replacements in due course.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Surrey County Council’s Highways Department or reach out to HPRA, and we will be happy to pass them on.
